The Octagon History
The Octagon is an award-winning, purpose built conference facility that was officially opened by Alan Johnson MP on November 18 2005. Emphasis has been placed on design and practicality and it comes complete with conference facilities you would expect from a first-class venue.
The Octagon came into being as the result of a community-led audit of local services, the Quality of Life report, which identified that Thornton was poorly served by a wide range of public services, had negligible health provision and good quality childcare was virtually non-existent. Since the building's completion in August 2005 it has led to a slew of investment in services by the City Council, the PCT and others; the city’s first integrated customer service centre, the city's first accredited Children's Centre, a new integrated primary healthcare centre and what has become one of the city's most successful conference venues.
