Healthwise Hull

Healthwise Hull

The programme is part of the Big Lottery Fund – Altogether Better project, a five-year programme to help people and communities across Yorkshire and Humber to eat better, be more physically active and improve their mental health. The aim of Healthwise Hull is to empower local residents to make a difference to the overall health of Hull by improving the health choices that they, their families and friends make.

Royal British Legion (RBL) Wardens

Royal British Legion (RBL) Wardens

The partnership activity assists serving, ex-service personnel and their dependants in all aspects of their lives whether it be specific advice on welfare, benefits, pensions, compensation, career options etc or the provision of material support in the form of accessing welfare breaks in residential centres around the country,  ‘immediate needs’ grants for those eligible which can cover help with debt and money advice, essential property repairs/household goods, advice, guidance signposting, and much more.

Danny’s Dream

Sometimes people need more than just a friendly visit when they are living independently at home - Danny’s Dream is a project which provides targeted support around personal care and daily living activities for children, young people and adults with severe physical and/or learning difficulties to allow them to achieve their potential to the fullest possible extent. The ‘Goodwin HandyVan Service'

The ‘Goodwin HandyVan Service'

This is a service offered to all Hull residents and qualifying Royal British Legion beneficiaries within the City of Hull.

A trained and CRB checked ‘HandyVan’ fitter will visit your home following an initial assessment of need and carry out such tasks as Security, Home Safety surveys and the fitting of security hardware and alarms as needed to improve security against crime and wellbeing in the home. 

Also available are services to tackle general odd jobs, small repairs and falls prevention, whilst providing advice and reassurance which allows people to remain living independently in their own home.

HandyVan provide services for domestic plumbing, minor domestic electrical work, some decorating work and garden remodification to aid falls prevention. 

Services are provided at a non-profit making cost to clients.  Please ring to discuss your requirements.

Befrienders

Our ‘Befrienders’ undertake a variety of activities  with older and vulnerable people such as occasional shopping, escorts, Health & Wellbeing activities etc. Assistance with letter writing/reading and ‘call in time’ telephone support is also available. Our users include those experiencing mobility problems, loneliness/isolation as well as low level health problems and disabilities.

Breastfeeding Peer Support Service

Breastfeeding peer support has been shown to be highly successful in helping women initiate and sustain breastfeeding for longer (NCT, 2009) and it is recognised as a key strategy in normalising breastfeeding. Therefore this valuable service will be a great support to mothers in Hull, helping them initiate and sustain exclusive or partial breastfeeding for longer.

Goodwin Volunteer Doula Project

The Goodwin volunteer doula project provides support to women during pregnancy and the early weeks of family life. This website provides resources for Doula projects across the country. It also provides a place where women can share experience and find out more about becoming involved in Doula projects. FirstStop

FirstStop is now available in Hull and the East Riding.

FirstStop Advice is an independent, free service offering advice and information for older people, their families and carers about housing and care options in later life. It is led by the charity Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC) working in partnership with other national and local organisations.
